KANGAROO VALLEY ART PRIZE & EXHIBITION

The signature event of Visual Arts in the Valley 2020 is the biennial Kangaroo Valley Art Prize & Exhibition ($6,000 first prize, plus other prizes).
Curator: Jane Cush, former Director, Goulburn Regional Art Gallery. Generally credited with building the profile of visual arts and reputation of the Goulburn Art Gallery, considered the best gallery between Sydney and Canberra and one of the premier regional galleries in Australia.
Judges: Two additional national judges, to be announced.
Entry & Application: The Kangaroo Valley Art Prize & Exhibition welcomes all original visual artworks, in any style and any medium from artists from NSW and across Australia. The Exhibition showcases emerging and established Australian artists. We encourage the submission of contemporary works including, but not limited to, painting in any medium, printmaking, digital, photographic and video art, textile and fabric art, multi-media and new media. We encourage interesting and provocative work, diversity and experimentation and challenges to traditional cultural systems and boundaries by working with a range of contemporary concepts and subjects.

All finalists will be exhibited over the October long-weekend (Friday 2 October – Monday 5 October) in the heritage Kangaroo Valley Hall. The Hall is transformed for the occasion into a professional art gallery.
Prizes: The most recent Prize saw over 400 entries from Sydney, throughout NSW plus Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia. The then $5,000 Prize went to painter Robyn Kinsela for “Rain Setting In”. Highly Commended ($1,000) was split between photographic artist Minuella Chapman for “Byzantium (Arcadia 1) and video artist Jon Frank for “Music”. The People’s Choice Prize ($1,000) was won by painter Sonja Bowden for “Chirnside Shearing Shed”.

Sales: All accepted work is offered for sale during the four-day long-weekend Exhibition and through the online Sales Gallery to the end of October 2020. In the most recent Exhibition, 30% of artworks were sold.
