The Last Boy
Tristan Chant
- 122 x 88
- jacquard woven tapestry
‘The Last Boy’ incorporates both fictional and documented imagery to create a work that exists as both a pictorial artefact from the future and a reflection on the current state of our world. The work proposes a moment at the edge of anthropogenic change where a lone child gazes upon an ancient sculpture. It contemplates the monolithic political, corporate, and social attitudes which will lead to climate dystopia and a climate-induced collapse. Tristan Chant is an artist, curator and cultural worker based in Sydney. His practice explores the human condition through popular culture, media and advertising. Working primarily in collage, Tristan uses carefully selected images to create speculative futures that are simultaneously familiar yet disorientating. Tristan holds a Bachelor of Fine Art from the National Art School and a Masters of Arts Administration from UNSW Art & Design. From 2012 – 2015 he curated the Conductors Project, an experimental project space which supported the practices of emerging artists.
