Kate Vella

Inspired by familiar objects, in my work I aim to capture the essence of an arrangement of vessels, fruit and flowers placed on a table. My process involves searching antiques stores, or drawing inspiration from objects in my home. Then arranging them with the correct light and surface, imbuing these homely things with anew life and identity. I work in a simplified style with an emphasis to the subject and its exaggerated shadows, leaving the negative space pared back. Born in Malta, Kate Vella is an emerging artist, living in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. Largely self-taught Vella has completed part time courses in oils, acrylics and mixes media. Working predominately in acrylics she continues to explore the still life genre and the bucolic landscape that surrounds her. Since 2018 Vella has held two solo shows and participated in numerous group exhibitions. Her work has attracted buyers and collectors from across Australia and overseas.
