Karen O’Connor “Beneath your Feet” Karen is an abstract painter, drawing inspiration from the natural environment and materials from the industrial past. Her contemporary practice pursues themes of incidental colour combinations that create a visual harmony often by pure chance - inspired by unnoticed, hidden patterns and textures within a landscape.“ Beneath your feet” is an abstraction from the surface and colours of some 1950’s linoleum. This particular artwork uses oil paint, oil sticks and cold wax. Over many layers this painting was also walked over, to further enhance its origin of flooring. Artist Bio UK born Karen O’Connor is a practicing artist and art educator living in Sydney - balancing both teaching art and making art. She currently teaches art programmes at the AGNSW and Bronte Public School, and runs a weekly life-drawing sketch club. She exhibits regularly both life-drawings and abstract paintings. This year as well as being a finalist in the Kangaroo Valley Art prize, Karen was also a finalist in the Little Things Art Prize.
