Sturm und Drang

When I started this painting in February, 2020, I had decided it should be something warm and cheerful but, as with all my non-objective paintings, my subconscious took over and allowed me
to express some of the stress of the previous months. Although never in imminent danger myself, friends in the surrounding villages and towns were and the acrid smoke and the worsening news
of death and destruction was an ever present reminder that home is not always a safe haven and one might have to abandon it at any moment of the day or night—or worse! When I started this painting in February, 2020, I had decided it should be something warm and cheerful but, as with all my non-objective paintings, my subconscious took over and allowed me
