NSW artist David Ball, a first time entrant, was the proud winner of the 2017 Sculpture in the Valley with his weathered steel work 'Orb'. After months of work, he says the sculpture is a universal symbol of the natural landscape, designed for any setting.

“I was trying to find a universal symbol that speaks to the people, the architecture, the landscape and the stars.”

The Orb not only took out the top prize in Kangaroo Valley’s Sculpture in the Valley exhibition but also has taken out the top gong at the 21st Sculpture By The Sea at Bondi which featured 104 sculptors from 15 countries and $60,000 prize money

‘I’m still getting over it, I think it's wonderful for me, but I also feel pretty humbled to win.” Ball said in an interview with the Shepparton News.
