A florist’s double or peony tulip ‘of a certain age’, at the point just beyond full bloom towards this next, equally beautiful stage of life. Portrayed larger than life to further explore the greater movement and complexity of colour, structure and detail afforded by this graceful state of decline; a reminder of the passage of time and mortality while containing the seeds of constant renewal. Within my botanically grounded art practice this portrait continues a meditative exploration of the natural world, to evoke an appreciation and reflection on its importance and perhaps an awareness of its loss. Bio Born in Sydney, Australia Beverly previously worked as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator and since 1998 has been painting botanical subjects in water colour both on paper and on vellum. She exhibits at the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney, in Melbourne and in the USA, the Netherlands, Japan, Italy and London. Her paintings are held in the Florilegium Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney, the Shirley Sherwood Collection, The Highgrove Florilegium for the Prince of Wales’ Charitable Trust, The Transylvania Florilegium for the Prince of Wales’s Foundation Romania, the Lindley Library, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew Library and the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation.www.beverlyallen.com.au
