Kangaroo Valley Art Prize & Exhibition
The signature event of Visual Arts in the Valley 2020 is the biennial Kangaroo Valley Art Prize & Exhibition (minimum $5,000 first prize, plus other prizes).
The Kangaroo Valley Art Prize welcomes all original visual artworks, in any style and any medium across all subject matters. We encourage interesting and provocative work, diversity, experimentation and challenges to traditional systems and boundaries by working with a range of contemporary concepts and subjects. The Prize is open to all Australian artists or artists residing in Australia – local, regional, NSW and across Australia.
The most recent Prize saw entries from Sydney, regional NSW, Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia. The $5,000 Prize was awarded to painter Robyn Kinsela for “Rain Setting In”. Highly Commended ($1,000) was split between photo artist Minuella Chapman for “Byzantium (Arcadia) 1” and video artist Jon Frank for “Music”. The People’s Choice Prize ($1,000) was won by painter Sonja Bowden for “Chirnside Shearing Shed”.
As well as being eligible for the various prizes, all accepted work is exhibited for sale during the four-day Exhibition and online through the Visual Arts in the Valley Gallery through the end of October 2020. In the most recent Prize & Exhibition, 30% of all artworks sold.
