Visual Arts in the Valley 2020 has closed for another year.  Held biennially over the October long-weekend, in 2020 it featured 8 events at 5 venues over 4 days.

In early 2020, the unprecedented 74-day Currowan bushfire smashed the southern flank of Kangaroo Valley, followed by torrential floods.  Then Covid-19 hit local businesses.

The community united and rebounded, a part of which was Visual Arts in the Valley 2020, a celebration of the visual arts and now one of the richer prizes in Australian art.  1,300 people visited the Kangaroo Valley Community Hall transformed into a professional gallery and four other venues in the Valley.

Curated by Jane Cush from Mittagong NSW and judged by major Sydney gallerists Brenda May and Damien Minton, finalists were from Sydney and throughout NSW, Canberra and Melbourne including 15% from interstate. All prize money – $18,350 in total – was donated by local Kangaroo Valley residents.$100,000 in artworks were sold (32% of hung finalists), including $33,000 by local artists – unheard of for any previous visual arts event in the surrounding regions – and great for artists.

Our hope is for to continue to emerge as a national arts event while retaining its local and regional flavour.

Please join us for in October 2022.
