Kangaroo Valley Arts Festival

Arts in the Valley will hold our next Festival from the 1st to 3rd May 2015.

Arts in the Valley has presented four biennial festivals in the beautiful surrounds of Kangaroo Valley in NSW south of Sydney, starting in 2007. We have brought the cream of Australia’s musicians to the valley to perform, and also held art and sculpture exhibitions. Our signature events have been our biennial Sculpture in the Valley, held in private gardens throughout the valley, and our Hausmusik series in which we take our audience to beautiful private houses.

In between our festivals, we like to present occasional concerts and this year was no different. We were delighted to present two wonderful Australian pianists, Simon Tedeschi and Mike Nock, in two concerts featuring the music of Gershwin. Simon took a classical approach on Saturday May 24 at 7pm, and include other composers whose work influenced Gershwin. Simon has recently recorded two CDs of Gershwin’s music for the ABC, and these CDs have been rapturously received. Mike Nock, a superb Australian jazz pianist, included Gershwin in his jazz concert on Sunday May 25 at 2pm. This was a rare chance to hear Mike play solo. All this was made possible by the support of Theme and Variations, who kindly agreed to lend us a Steinway concert grand piano.

Arts in the Valley has a new organising committee, led by President Nick Minogue, and their enthusiasm will be important in making plans for our fifth biennial festival to be held in May 2015. The program is being planned and we hope to announce it to our members in October 2014.
