Match Percussion’s Daryl Pratt and Alison Eddington will perform Water Settings written by Pratt about the local water bodies, including Jervis Bay and Seven Mile Beach. Pratt’s work documents his response to the region, especially during his time as Artist-in-Residence at the Bundanon Estate. Match will also play the gentle Djilile by Peter Sculthorpe and Cross Hatch by the Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu.
The second half of this concert will feature the world premiere of Andrew Ford’s Elegy in a Country Graveyard which takes the Robertson cemetery as its focal point. The cemetery is as old as Robertson itself, and Ford’s Elegy evokes its past and present through the memories of local people. Their voices, together with environmental sounds, are woven into a rich tapestry of sound with local choirs and the Southern Highlands Concert Band. The production of the tape part of this work is a co-production with the ABC’s Listening Room.
Elegy in a Country Graveyard is a musical work unique to the area. This will be its world premiere performance. This concert is supported by Shoalhaven Arts Board.
