Born and raised in Sacramento California, Daryl Pratt lived in Southern California before migrating to Australia in 1985. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from California Institute of the Arts and a Master of Fine Arts from The University of California, San Diego. Mr Pratt has taught at UCSD, The Canberra School of Music and was appointed Chair of Percussion at The Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 1991 where he also conducts the Modern Music Ensemble and teaches classes for the Composition and Jazz Units.

Daryl’s broad performance background has an emphasis in Contemporary Classical music and Jazz. Performance experience: Sonor director Bernard Rands (1977-1984), co-founded Pipeline with Simone de Haan (1987-1995), The Australia Art Orchestra director Paul Grabowsky (1994-2001), AtmaSphere, David Jones (1991-) and The Chad Wackerman Group (1997-2004). Orchestral background: Timpanist with The La Jolla Civic Orchestra (1978-1980) and Canberra Symphony Orchestra (1985-1990); Percussion with San Diego Symphony Orchestra and Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Chamber performances: Synergy, The Australia Ensemble and The Australia Chamber Orchestra.
Pratt founded the electric jazz group Sonic Fiction in 1993 and Match Percussion with Alison Eddington in 2001. He has recordings on ABC, Lovely, Naxos, CRI, Rufus Records, EFA, VoxAustralis, Fleur de Son Classics, and Tall Poppies. He has written compositions for solo, chamber ensemble and voice.
